How to Increase Targeted Web Site Traffic Using MySpace

If you run an online business, you should be aware by now how important driving traffic to your website should be. Without traffic, your website would be nothing more than just the equivalent of a cyberspace junkyard. With the advent of social networking, many webmasters are turning to social networking sites such as MySpace to increase targeted web site traffic, as MySpace has been and currently still is the most popular social networking phenomena. MySpace has attracted millions of members all over the world ever since it was first started, and if you're looking to increase your web site traffic using MySpace, this article will show you how.

.

First of all, when signing up for a MySpace profile, choose a name that will stand out, because the name of your profile will act as a headline that will either attract or turn away visitors to your profile. It is also advantageous if you have keywords in your profile that will allow you to get exposure in search engines. Using special symbols to spice up your name will boost the status perception amongst internet users who happen to be searching for profiles to view. Symbols such as © and ™ would go a long way in making your profile name stand out above the rest. Another handy trick is changing the size of your display name by adding code into your .nametext element using CSS in your layout.

.

Once you're past naming your MySpace profile, you'll need to come up with layout that is both aesthetically attractive and fascinating to others. The design of the profile will determine the repeat traffic you receive at the end of the day, so if visitors find your layout boring, chances are you won't get a lot of recurring visitors to your profile. However, having an aesthetically pleasing site is not enough to garner 'staying power' with the traffic you may receive. While an interesting layout may bring initial traffic to your profile, lack of intriguing and stimulating content may cause visitors to grow bored of your site quickly, and it would be very unlikely for them to return to the site in future. Take a look around at some of the more popular MySpace sites. Notice anything about them? The sites which contain fascinating and stimulating content would have a high number of repeat visitors, because they are interested in the content, and they might have promoted others to visit the site as well.

.

MySpace's huge exposure to the masses makes it a perfect channel for advertisements. Consider buying ad space for your banner ads, because your site can get a substantial amount of exposure it needs, and you would have a higher chance of increasing traffic to your site. Lastly, join groups that have similar interests with you or ones that could be related to your business. Getting your name out there to the masses may be a matter of simply joining in on online discussions and helping people solve their problems. Once you appear trustworthy, pitching your products should be a breeze.

.

So if you're thinking of ways on how to increase targeted web site traffic, consider taking advantage of MySpace's potential in reaching out to the masses.

How to Build An Opt-In Mailing Lists?

One of the powerful tools in online “email” marketing is to build an opt-in mailing list. An opt-in mailing list is a database of peoples’ names and email addresses that have subscribed to an email list via a web form giving that list owner permission to send them periodic emails on the topic they are interested in. The best gift of this powerful tool is the possibility of being able to talk to people who are particularly interested in your product, service or organization.

This gaining popularity of building opt-in mailing list is known as Permission Email Marketing.

There are do’s and don’ts in starting your opt-in mailing list. Here are some of the most important tips worth mentioning:

DO’S

1.Put a subscription form prominently on your website. You can create your own subscription form using simple software

2.Inform people that they can subscribe to your email list on the signature of your normal work emails. This will enable it to link straight through the form on your website.

3.Ask people permission if they do want to be subscribed on your mailing list. As much as possible avoid being suspected for SPAM.

4.Open up options for subscription especially during your interactions with them. Send a link during an instant messenger chat.

5.Be clear on how people can benefit from subscribing and how often will you contact them. Make them know exactly what they will be receiving.

6.If you can, contact new subscriber as soon as you can. Welcome them with notes and tell them what to expect.

DON’T

1.Add everyone who has ever emailed you to your list. Always ask permission first.

2.Purchase lists that you are not 100% sure that are opt-in. Always have an evidence to prove the legitimacy of the opt-ins.

3.Abuse people’s trust. This is a sure way to ruin your brand and you. Soon enough they will ignore your messages.

Building your opt-in mailing list is cheaper than sending direct mails. Printing, envelopes and paper increase the cost. Here are some ways to effectively start your opt-in mailing list:

1.Free Newsletter. One of the most effective ways to build an opt-in list is to offer your online visitors freebies of value such as newsletter which will contain information that they can relate to such as tips, tools, recipes, travel itineraries and others.

2.Make it Easy to Subscribe. Provide easy steps for subscription so that subscribers may find it easy to do so and would not be discouraged. For more subscribers, tell them the exact benefits they can get out of the subscription.

3.Quality Content. Be sure that what is written inside the newsletter, freebies and information found in your website are all of value to increase visitors dropping by your website.

4.Forums. Discussion boards and forums are all over the net. Try to actively participate in these boards especially those in the line of your interest or your business. Try to build your reputation with credibility.

Download Complete W3Schools Tutorials For Offline Viewing.

W3schools.com is no doubtly the best online resource for learning the various markup and scripting languages like html, css, javascript, xml and others.

But w3cschool tutorials are not available for offline viewing and if you want to, you have to save each of the page manually and then browse it which is quite irritating.

Most offline downloaders like HTTrack are not able to download it fully. You can try downloading the w3schools.com site using downloaders but they only downloads few pages from here and there.

So I have done all the manual labour for you guys and downloaded each pages from w3shools manually and then linked them all and compiled the chm file from it.

Now you can easily view all of the w3cschools tutorials offline anywhere anytime you want.

Hope you enjoys this.

Note: I am not breaking any copyright acts, I am just helping the geek's by providing the free web contents for offline viewing.

The chm file is 6.33 Mb in size, you can download it from the link given below.

Getting Traffic from DIGG.com.

We all need traffic, Don’t we ?

So here is a great find to get Traffic from Commenting on Digg.com

Read these tips carefully....

  • First, your links must post to quality content. The three articles I linked to above are well-written, well-researched articles. Two of the three articles that I linked to have even been featured on Slashdot (1, 2). Quality, of course, is a relative term. Given the typical Digg banter, the threshold for adding quality content can sometimes quite low. The links, however, cannot point to pages that are clearly blogspam or you are sure to face Digg’s wrath.

  • Must be on topic. This is probably more important than the quality of the link. It may seem obvious, but if your comment/link doesn’t relate to the article, especially if it contains a link, then it will be buried.

  • First posts comments are going to receive exponentially more traffic than later posts. They can set the tone for the rest of the discussion and can be almost as important as the actual article being linked to. If the Digg article already has a comment then it is usually better to reply to the first comment than submit a new comment. This is true even if your comment isn’t a direct response to the comment you are replying to. Otherwise, the first comment will eventually get dozens of replies, pushing the second comment way down the page where it will not be seen by most. For example, I replied to the first comment on a post about Google searches. The first post was buried with 16 negative votes which effectively gave me the first post. This comment brought 509 visitors. In my opinion, this is a flaw with the Digg comment system where you can only reply to root comments. It provides an incentive for disjointed discussions. I suspect that Digg will redo their comment system at some point in the near future.

  • If you are looking for traffic from your posts, it does little good to comment on articles that are already on Digg’s front page. There are two reasons for this. First, you no longer have the first post advantage and your comment will be lost among the masses. The second reason is that the highest amount of traffic will come while the post is at the top of main page. Each minute that passes is lost traffic. It’s much better to find future front page stories from the upcoming stories section. This is not hard. Checking the “hot in technology” on the right side of the page will show you which posts are most likely to hit the front page in the next few hours. Of course, you can drill down to other topics besides technology as well. The cloud view and other tools can also be used to predict which stories are most likely to hit the front page.

  • As with all forums and websites, if you focus solely on promoting your website it will eventually come back to haunt you. All your links and submitted stories should not be to your own sites.Digg, as a general rule, has a negative bias towards all things SEO and marketing. If you have a name like SEOmoz (sorry), there are some people that aren’t going to give you a fair shake.Digg does not use the NoFollow tag. However, if you receive a ‘thumbs down’ from four users your comment will be hidden by default. At some point in the future Digg may follow Wikipedia’s lead and move to NoFollow tags. I’d recommend it to prevent link spam but generally the community is quick to bury.

  • Realize that although you may receive many new visitors they may be less likely to stay around than traffic you receive from other sources. As you can see from the statistics below, the bounce rate was between 74-92%. The average time on site was 20 seconds for the Mythbusters article and just over a minute for the fuel and gas articles. I’m sure that there are ways the site can improve its stickiness (any ideas?), but the point remains the same—Digg visitors are less likely to stick around than traffic from other sources.

By way of full disclosure, the site I linked to, OmniNerd, is not my site. I have no financial relationship with the site and don’t know how their GoogleAds performed, but I suspect that very few visitors from Digg clicked on ads. If AdSense earnings are your primary motivation, Digg is probably not your best option.

  • Although this is not my site, OmniNerd did let me peek into their Google Analytics for this story. Since the stats used above are from Google Analytics and not the server logs, the actual traffic may be higher than I reported. According to something I read on StumbleUpon, “A large portion of…Firefox users have added the NoScript add-on to their browser. This is one of the top-10 most popular extensions for Firefox. This extension blocks any javascript calls…caus[ing]…Google Analytics…to not work.” If that’s true, then the actual traffic from these comments could be higher than recorded. Currently about 50% of OmniNerd’s recorded visitors use Firefox. How many are not being counted? Does anyone have experience with Google Analytics not counting all their traffic?

  • Although Digg comments can be a valuable source of traffic, the reaction to spam can be painful. A couple months ago Chandler Kent learned that the hard way when he submitted a comment with a link to his blog under his name, as is common practice in most forums. It quickly received hundreds of “thumbs down” but didn’t stop there. Someone posted his phone number and he began to receive creepy phone calls and comments such as he “deserves to be hunted down and stalked.” Ironically, his recounting of the fallout was widely publicized as “The Most Hated Comment on Digg” and brought him a ton of traffic.

Comments on Digg can bring you some nice traffic if you are willing to risk your life.

How To Achieve A #1 Ranking On MSN In Three Months Or Less - Case Study.

Challenge: An established machine shop in Tyngsboro, MA, called Eastmar Inc. needed a website to showcase their services and bring in new business. The challenge was to design a website quickly, optimize it for the search engines using the keyword phrase “cnc machining” on a fixed budget, and rank #1 “organically” in the search results. It turned out after conducting extensive keyword research that “cnc machining” was a VERY competitive keyword search phrase, but I was confident and assured the client it could be done. (Note: I never guarantee #1 or top ten ranking because you never know…. what works one day, may not work the next).

Result: A nine page fully optimized, search engine/user friendly website went live on 4/23/06 with the only cost (excluding my fees) going to web hosting - $120 and registering a domain name – less than $10. This was a LOW budget tactical operation in every sense of the word. All on-page SEO tactics were implemented including adding the main keyword phrase “cnc machining” in the title tag, meta description and keyword tags, H1 and H2 tags, ALT tag, bolding the keyword phrase within the content, and making sure the last thing the search engine spider see’s is the keyword phrase on the page. Very little off-page optimization was ever completed. The end result on 6/20/06 (less than 2 months into the project): - #1 organic ranking on MSN for the search phrase “cnc machining” out of 1,131,085 results.

The Importance of The Tittle Tag and SEO.

Did you know the title tag is one of the most important elements of SEO?

Search engines will rank each page of your site based on how well it is optimized for certain keywords. Therefore, if you wanted a site to rank well for the keyword phrase “network attached storage” then you would create a page that was all about this phrase.

Makes sense, but without a properly written title tag the search engines may never rank your site well for the keyword phrase your targeting.

A title tag should be included on every page of your site. It tells the search engines what the page is specifically about. In the example above, if you were targeting the keyword phrase “network attached storage” then you might want to have your title tag written with the following words: Network Attached Storage.

Although, I found out that having too many words in the title tag may not be a good thing.

Recently I was perplexed as to why my client was not ranking well for the phrase “network attached storage” on Google. In fact, they were no where to be found on Google for this phrase even though the phrase was in the title tag and there were a good number of sites linking to this page. I took a whole day comparing their page to competitor pages that ranked well on Google for the same phrase. I found a number of similarities including the number of inbound links to the page, page rank of the sites linking to the page, anchor text, keyword density, etc.

The percentage of the keywords in the anchor text wasn’t as high as the other sites and I noticed the competition had a few more sites linking to their pages, so I decided to focus my “off-page” optimization efforts on getting more sites to link to my client’s “network attached storage” page.

Next, I focused my attention on “on-page” optimization. I noticed although the title tag had the words “network attached storage” in it, the tag read “network attached storage filers from…” As I mentioned previously, my client did not rank for “network attached storage” on Google, so I decided to type in “network attached storage filers” to see where the client would rank. The client ranked on the second page. To my suprise, just by adding that one keyword “filers” to the end of my keyword phrase made all the difference in where the page ranked in Google. So, I thought to myself what if I was to remove it from the title tag.

I concluded the main reason the site was not ranking for “network attached storage” was the title tag was too long. I immediately changed the title tag, Google spidered the page again a few days later and sure enough the site was now ranked 149 of out 48 million plus other pages. While 149 is not great, it is a good starting point from being nowhere.

Effective Search Engine Optimization.

Any successful SEO implementation should include the following:

  1. Extensive Keyword Research - Research specific keywords or keyword phrases that will most likely bring the most relevant/targeted traffic to your website. Compile a list of relevant keywords/keyword phrases to optimize for on your home page, landing page, and any other pages of your website. Never try to shoot for very general keywords such as “jewelry” or “furniture”. Rather, shoot for more targeted keyword phrases such as “M2 design bracelets” or “swivel recliner”.

  2. Site Design Geared Towards Targeted Audience - Design your site content and navigation according to your keyword research and for your target market/audience. Never design your site just for the search engines, rather design your site for your “live” audience (visitors). When it makes sense to do so, plug your keywords into your navigation or web content. Your keyword research will reveal what people are searching for in various ways. Make sure your sites navigation and content showcase the various ways in which people are searching for what you have to offer. Make sure you also include your keywords/keyword phrases in the title/meta/keyword/ALT/Heading tags.

  3. Website That Is “Spider/Crawling” Search Engine Friendly. - Use a Free HTML Validator to ensure your site is browser friendly and has no broken links. Having links that don’t work will greater reduce your credibility with any potential prospects that tour your site. Make sure your site is more rich in content and less in fancy flash animations/javascript and images. Its not that these don’t serve a purpose or should never be used its just that search engines cannot interpret Flash and graphics. Having a large number of images can also slow down how fast your site loads. Use the Website Speed Test to see how fast your site pages load. Its also a good idea to use HTML links in the top-level main navigation on each of the pages of your site.

  4. Descriptive Anchor Text (visible text within a clickable text link) For All The Internal Links Of Your Site - Good descriptive navigational links will help your visitors find their way around your site and find what their looking for. Make it as easy as possible for your visitors to find their way around and use “call to action” links/buttons to get your visitors do what you want them to do once they find what their looking for. Do this and you will see a vast increase in conversions/sales and a greater ROI (return on investment) for your business.

  5. Site That Is “Link-Worthy” - Having other sites link to yours is a vital element of any successful search engine optimization, as all of the major search engines place a good deal of emphasis on your sites overall link popularity.

Finally, is your site full of great content and information about your products/services? Does it clearly state the benefits and how it solves your target market/audience problem or problems? Is it a great resource for others? As a visitor can I easily find my way around your site? Does it capture my attention enough to keep me on the site or will I get bored and leave right away? Will other website owners be inclined to link to your site? These are the type of questions that you must answer in order to have a site that others will want to link to.

Any good web analytics tool will measure these results and give you a good indication of how your site measures up to desired results. If you hire an SEO consultant or SEO firm. make sure they set you up with one. Eliminate the guesswork as much as possible and make decisions based on monitored website behavior.

Black Hat SEO.

You may have heard the term “black hat techniques” or “black hat seo”, but what exactly does this coined phrase mean?

Anything that deceives Search Engines and/or the end user is “Black Hat SEO”. This would include artificial link building, fake traffic, page redirects that take the user to a totally unrelated website then what he/she thought they were going to, mirror sites, hidden links and text, keyword stuffing of title, meta, alt image tags, spamming, etc.

These techniques should never be considered as they will get your site banned from the search engines.

Be very cautious when considering to work with any SEO consultant or SEO firm that implements these unethical seo techniques or “guarantee’s” top search engine rankings. Always check references and look for consultants or firms that practice “ethical SEO implementation”.

Search Engine Optimization Tricks for WordPress.

If you missed Matt Cutts performance at San Francisco’s WordCamp 2007, you should totally kick yourself because it was awesome. And yes, it was a performance and believe me, the WordCampers Ate. It. Up.

Matt was on hand Saturday afternoon to give some whitehat search engine optimization tips for bloggers. I joked with him during lunch (cause we’re like, totally friends now) that there would only be a handful of people in his session because no one knew what search engine optimization was, but I was wrong. The room was packed and Matt was arguably Day 1’s MVP because he was both informative and hysterically adorable.

The tip shared by Matt that’s getting the biggest amount of coverage was the news that Google is very close to being able to interpret underscores as word separators the way hyphens have been in the past. This should make SEOs and bloggers alike very excited because it means the benefit of their keyword-rich URLs won’t be negated when their blog software automatically inserts underscores and not hyphens. This is also smart for Google because it should go a long way to strengthening their blog search, which at the moment is good, but not quite as good as Technorati.

Matt gave several other WordPress and blogging-related search engine optimization tricks, including:

  • Don’t put your blog at the root page of your domain. What if down the line you want to do something else besides a blog? Also, people will typically link to your main page and to your main blog page so it’s a good way to gain extra links.

  • Name your directory “blog” not “Wordpress”.

  • Use category names that are good keywords.

  • Use Stephan Spencer’s SEO Title plug-in which swaps the name of your blog with the name of your post to make your keywords more prevalent.

  • If you want any hope of getting your blog into Google News, make sure there are multiple authors.

  • The type of file extension used in your URL won’t affect your rankings, unless it’s “exe”. If each one of your blog entries is its own program, you likely have a problem.

In terms of including question marks or hash marks in your URL, Matt noted that Google will truncate the URL at the hash marks and that question marks typically signify a dynamic URL. Matt claims that dynamic URLs are treated the same as static URLs.

Beyond just the tips, Matt also discussed some optimization stuff that was really just common sense. In terms of keywords, Matt advised doing keyword research and/or thinking about the keywords users are most likely to use before writing (duh), naturally working in keyword synonyms to make yourself more well-rounded (Use this knowledge only for good, never for evil, pleads Matt), and using ALT tags on all forms of media content. This includes not only images, but video, audio and other forms as well. This is only going to get more important.

Matt says if you’re not sure if you should do a podcast or vidcast, head over to the site hotornot.com and submit your photo. If you’re a 7 or above, do a video. If you’re a 6 or below, stick to podcasts. Heh, nice.

Also noteworthy was that somehow during the session PageRank and Google’s supplemental index was brought into the conversation. (See, Matt, it’s not just us optimization folk who are obsessed). I giggled but Matt told the blogging audience that supplemental results are determined mainly by PageRank. The only way to get them out of the index is so get them more links. There may or may not have been some cringing by me when he said this. I don’t think Matt noticed, nor did my fellow WordCampers.

To create an optimization-friendly blog, bloggers should also:

  • Make sure your site is crawlable.

  • Make post creation dates easy to find. Anyone remember Sicko?

  • If you’re worried that adding the date with put more slashes into your URL, don’t worry. Matt says this isn’t a problem for Google.

  • Check your blog on a cell phone/iPhone, as more and more users are going to be looking at your site this way.

  • Use full text RSS feeds to get loyal users. Partial feeds get more page views, but not as much love.Your blog should do standard pings.

Matt ended the session noting that Google really wants to be a reflection of the Web. The best thing you can do for your site and ensure that Google knows about you is to get noticed. Create compelling content and users and Google will find out about your blog naturally. Create fun tools (LOLcat builder), controversy (Dvorak!), mention Robert Scoble (hiss!) or go the linkbait route and sell your mustache on eBay (Oh, Dax…).

Matt offered a lot of great blog optimization tips, but for me, the good thing about WordPress and most other blogging software is that it’s really search engine optimization friendly right out of the box. I’ve played around with a lot of blog software over the years, WP included, and it does a good job of handling most of the technical things for you. All you have to do is provide compelling keyword-rich content in a way that people want to read and link to. That’s not so hard, right?

Tips to Get Repeat Web Traffic.

1. Update the pages on your website frequently. Stagnant sites are dropped by some search engines. You can even put a date counter on the page to show when it was last updated.

2. Offer additional value on your website. For affiliates and partners you can place links to their sites and products and ask them to do the same for you. You can also advertise their books or videos, if these products relate to your industry and are not in competition with your own product.

3. You can allow customers to ‘opt in’ to get discounts and special offers. Place a link on your site to invite customers to ‘opt in’ to get a monthly newsletter or valuable coupons.

4. Add a link to your primary page with a script ‘Book Mark or Add this site to your Favorites’.

5. Add a link ‘Recommend this site to a Friend’ so that the visitor can email your website link, with a prewritten title, “Thought you might be interested in this”, just by clicking on it.

6. Brand your website so that visitors always know they are on your site. Use consistent colors, logos and slogans and always provide a ‘Contact Us’ link on each page.

7. Create a ‘Our Policies’ page that clearly defines your philosophy and principles in dealing with your customers. Also post your privacy policy as well so that clients know they are secure when they visit your site.

8. Create a FAQ page which addresses most of the doubts and clarifications about your product or your company that are likely to be asked. This helps to resolve most of the customers doubts in their first visit to your site.

9. Ensure that each page on your website has appropriate titles and keywords so that your customer can find their way back to your site if they lose the book mark.

10. Never spam a client, who has opted for newsletters, with unsolicited emails. Later if they decide they want to ‘opt out’ of the mailings, be sure you honor their request and take them off the mailing list. They may still come back if they like your products. But they will certainly not come back if you continue to flood their email box with mails they no longer wish to receive.

Tips to increase ranking and website traffic

It is worth cataloguing the basic principles to be enforced to increase website traffic and search engine rankings.

  • Create a site with valuable content, products or services.
  • Place primary and secondary keywords within the first 25 words in your page content and spread them evenly throughout the document.
  • Research and use the right keywords/phrases to attract your target customers.
  • Use your keywords in the right fields and references within your web page. Like Title, META tags, Headers, etc.
  • Keep your site design simple so that your customers can navigate easily between web pages, find what they want and buy products and services.
  • Submit your web pages i.e. every web page and not just the home page, to the most popular search engines and directory services. Hire someone to do so, if required. Be sure this is a manual submission. Do not engage an automated submission service.
  • Keep track of changes in search engine algorithms and processes and accordingly modify your web pages so your search engine ranking remains high. Use online tools and utilities to keep track of how your website is doing.
  • Monitor your competitors and the top ranked websites to see what they are doing right in the way of design, navigation, content, keywords, etc.
  • Use reports and logs from your web hosting company to see where your traffic is coming from. Analyze your visitor location and their incoming sources whether search engines or links from other sites and the keywords they used to find you.
  • Make your customer visit easy and give them plenty of ways to remember you in the form of newsletters, free reports, reduction coupons etc.
  • Demonstrate your industry and product or service expertise by writing and submitting articles for your website or for article banks so you are perceived as an expert in your field.
  • When selling products online, use simple payment and shipment methods to make your customer’s experience fast and easy.
  • When not sure, hire professionals. Though it may seem costly, but it is a lot less expensive than spending your money on a website which no one visits.
  • Don’t look at your website as a static brochure. Treat it as a dynamic, ever-changing sales tool and location, just like your real store to which your customers with the same seriousness.

Some essential feaures your web site must have

Just don’t focus on the home page, keywords and titles.

The first step to sales when customers visit your site to see the products they were looking for. Of course, search engine optimization and better rankings can’t keep your customer on your site or make them buy. The customer having visited your site, now ensure that he gets interested in your products or services and stays around. Motivate him to buy the product by providing clear and unambiguous information. Thus if you happen to sell more than one product or service, provide all necessary information about this, may be by keeping the information at a different page. By providing suitable and easily visible links, the customer can navigate to these pages and get the details.

Understanding Your Target CustomerIf you design a website you think will attract clients, but you don’t really know who your customers are and what they want to buy, it is unlikely you make much money. Website business is an extension or replacement for a standard storefront. You can send email to your existing clients and ask them to complete a survey or even while they are browsing on your website. Ask them about their choices. Why do they like your products? Do you discount prices or offer coupons? Are your prices consistently lower than others? Is your shipping price cheaper? Do you respond faster to client questions? Are your product descriptions better? Your return policies and guarantees better than your competitor’s? To know your customer you can check credit card records or ask your customer to complete a simple contact form with name, address, age, gender, etc. when they purchase a product.

Does your website give enough contact information? When you sell from a website, your customer can buy your products 24 hrs a day and also your customers may be from other states that are thousands of miles away. Always provide contact information, preferably on every page of your website, complete with mailing address, telephone number and an email address that reaches you. People may need to contact you about sales, general information or technical problems on your site. Also have your email forwarded to another email address if you do not check your website mailbox often. When customer wants to buy online provide enough options like credit card, PayPal or other online payment service.
