If your computer is running slowly, then you must check some things that can help you to enhance the speed. Go through the following points to troubleshoot the slow running computer:

- Check for spyware and viruses. Spyware and viruses are a common source of computer problems. Scan for spyware, viruses, and malware using anti-spyware and anti-virus programs.
- Delete files that you no longer need or use as well as in Recycle Bin. Run Defrag to help ensure that data is arranged in the best possible order.
- Remove or disable any TSRs or programs that automatically start each time the computer boots.
- Make sure programs are up to date. Run “Windows Update” to make sure that your operating system is up-to-date.
- Click on start, and then go to all programs. On the menu, hit accessories, and then click on system tools. On the system tools window, go to disk cleanup.
- Make sure your computer and processor is not overheating, excessive heat can cause a significant decrease in computer performance some processors will even lower the speed of the processor automatically to help compensate for the heat related issues.
- Check if the RAM chips are overheating. Turn the computer off, pull the plug and open the case. Make sure you're grounded and touch the edge of your RAM chips. If it is scalding hot, you may have a problem.
- If your system is slowing down, run scandsk or chkdsk (depending on your operating system) and check for bad sectors. If there are bad sectors, backup your data and have a replacement hard disk ready to take over.
